The capital of Chile and one of the largest cities in Americas. The city is just 115 km away from the nearest port, Valparaiso, which makes it a perfect close to shore excursion if you are cruising. This city at the end of the Andes may not be popular as its big brothers in South America – Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, but it certainly has a word or two to say. This city has grown economically very much in the recent years, with modern skyscrapers who pullout now and then. Here are the top reasons to travel to Santiago.
You will start the visit with the tour guide leading you to the historical center, where you will have a chance to see the architecture of the most traditional sites. We then visit the Santa Luca hill, the site where the conqueror Pedro De Valdivia founded Santiago in the 16th century. From the top of the hill, you will have a panoramic view of the city, where you can take a stunning photo of the city’s landscape while enjoying the hill’s flora and the architecture of Hidalgo’s Castle. Afterwards, the travel takes us to the beautiful New York Street, the Stock Exchange, the Government Palace, and the main historical buildings such as the National Library, the Court House and the former Congress. Then, we will visit the Town Square- Plaza del Armas, If you are lucky enough to visit Santiago on weekends, there will be performers and dancers on the squer. This part of the city has some fanstastic architecture pieces which are also citi’s landmarks, like the Cathedral, the Postal Service Building, and the National Historical Museum (the former Royal Courthouse).Afterwards, you will experience the lively environment of the Central Market, visit the Santiago Jockey Club and go by the Bellavista neighborhood, famous for its restaurants and nightlife. This neighborhood is also known for the great street art. Finally, we visit the finest residential neighborhoods until we reach El Pueblito de los Dominicos, a lovely craft workers village where you will be able to walk around its narrow streets and buy typical Chilean crafts.
We continue to the hotel/airport.
To extend your South America tour, we recommend you taking a wine tour on the coastline, visiting Valparaiso…
