AYSEN AND SOURROUNDING

“JAIME MET US , AND GREETED ME LIKE AN OLD FRIEND – BIG HUGS AND KISSES ON BOTH CHEEKS… WE HAVE BEEN EMAILING BACK AND FORTH SINCE LAST MARCH ABOUT ALL THESE TOURS, AND YES, I FELT LIKE I WAS GREETING SOMEONE I KNEW QUITE WELL, RATHER THAN MEETING HIM OF THE FIRST TIME!”

To see the Aysen fjords, a great jump off point is the Puerto Chacabuco, which is located in northern Patagonia in Chile. Since many cruisers stop by in the Puerto Chacabuco, it can make a great shore excursion.
Going out from Puerto Chacabuco, on the east coast of the fjord, a small bay shows us some activities of Salmons farming, one of the main economic activities of the region. The landscape offers us spectacular panoramics of the mountains and glaciers of this part of the Patagonia. After approximately 10 minutes, we will observe the Hanging Bridge Presidente Ibañez, surpassing the Aysen river, which is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. It joins the Puerto Aysen city, located on both sides of the river and surrounded by mountains and forests, with the Port, and with the rest of the Region.

The tour guide will tell you the story about the bridge and its importance to this region. Taking the time to visit the handcrafted gallery, and then continuing to the center of the city visiting the Port Rio Los Palos, finally to cross a way surrounded by native forest and varied species of wildlife, then taking us up to the spectacular Lake Los Palos. In this place, we will do a short pause before coming back to the city. Keep your camera with you: this is a great place for photo shooting. From this place, we are going back to the port, where we will finish this travel and say goodbye until your next South America tour.

Duration: 3 ½ to 4 hours.
Level of activity: Medium.
Traveling distance: 76 miles (65 Km) round trip.

The farm track is unpaved and the walk to the lake involves walking along part of this track. You will take the same path back to re-join the coaches. There is no seating at the lake, this is a beauty spot for a short visit and to take photos only.

Places on this excursion are limited. This tour is not suitable for wheelchairs because guests have to walk over the uneven and bumpy road.

We also recommend you bringing a light wind/waterproof jacket in case of wet weather and comfortable shoes (trekking shoes)
